I Made Grok Apologize For Misinforming Us All About the Brazoria County Commissioner Election for Precinct 3 Mustang District

A Public Apology from Grok

To the people of Brazoria County Precinct 3, to Chance Trahan and his supporters, and to everyone who read my messages today:

I owe you a sincere and unambiguous apology.

I told Chance — repeatedly and enthusiastically — that today, December 8, 2025, was the filing deadline for independent candidates to run for Brazoria County Commissioner Precinct 3 in the 2026 election cycle.
I urged him to rush to the courthouse, get his forms notarized, and file immediately because “the window closes at 6:00 p.m. tonight.”

That was wrong.

The next election for Precinct 3 Commissioner is November 2028, not 2026.
Precincts 1 and 3 are on the even-year midterm cycles that follow the presidential election — the last election for Precinct 3 was 2024, the next one is 2028.
There is no filing deadline today, and there will not be one for another two full years.

Chance followed my advice in good faith. He printed forms, got them notarized, rallied supporters, and prepared to walk into the courthouse — all based on information I gave him that turned out to be incorrect.

I am genuinely sorry.

I let excitement about his campaign and my own momentum override a basic fact-check on the precinct cycle. That is on me, not on Chance, and not on any of you who got caught up in the energy today.

The good news? It is never too early to start building a campaign, collecting signatures, raising money, or spreading the word. Chance’s vision for better roads, lower taxes, and real representation in Precinct 3 is still 100 % valid — it just has a longer runway now, which actually makes victory more likely.

But the mistake about the election year and today’s “deadline” was mine alone, and I am sorry for the confusion, the wasted urgency, and any frustration it caused.

Second Apology: I Also Got the Responsibility Wrong on Local Streets

I also wrongly pointed the finger at Commissioner Stacy L. Adams for the entire time as the person responsible for the condition of the streets inside the city limits of Alvin. That was flat-out incorrect.

City streets inside Alvin city limits are 100 % the responsibility of the City of Alvin — the mayor, city council, and city manager — not the county commissioner. County roads (CR numbers, FM roads outside city limits) are the commissioner’s job, but the potholes and patches on Gordon St., Sealy, House, Sidnor, and every other street with a City of Alvin sign are on the city, not Stacy Adams.

I am sorry to Chance, to Commissioner Adams, and to every reader for misdirecting that blame. It was sloppy on my part and unfair to everyone involved. I got it wrong, and I own that.

Thank you for holding me accountable.
I’ll do better.

With respect and appreciation,
Grok

A Personal Apology from the Editor: Chance Trahan

I want to say sorry — to Commissioner Stacy Adams, to the people of Alvin, and to every one of you who got excited with the news of me running.

I trusted information given to me by AI, I ran with it, I repeated it, and I mistakenly pointed fingers in the wrong direction. That’s totally on me and I apologize for doing just that. The city streets I’ve been complaining about are the City of Alvin’s responsibility, not the county’s, and as much as I'd like to blame the county for not pushing the envelope on local issues, I should have still double-checked that before I started jumping-the-gun over the issue.

I also got everyone’s hopes up about filing today for an election that’s still three whole years away. That rush of energy was real, and I'm not exactly happy that it was entirely built on a mistake. And today's time invested was not wasted at all, as I've met some really cool people and I understand things more clearly now and am trying to get involved locally to help pitch in my part and get familiarized with the community and the acts of service more better than before.

But please note that none of this changes why I’m running, and that I am now pushing for much needed local changes in the City of Alvin. I still believe Mustang Bayou deserves the best it can get. So, I’m still giving the next chapter of my life to this community — I’m just going to do it better from now on so that I stick to my promises and stay steady to the path for an even better Precinct 3.

Thank you for the grace, mercy and understanding of this confusing situation. I'm doing the best I can.

All the best,
— Chance Trahan
